Ballet, tap, jazz, modern, acrobatics, contemporary, lyrical, street, commercial, song and dance, vocals, national and cabaret are all welcome at SYWTD.
We split our sections via age, genre and whether it is a solo, duet, trio or troupe. It's safe to say we celebrate every format and every performer.
We've always believed that competition should celebrate diversity of talent, not narrow it. Whatever your student's style, there is a place for them on our stage.
Prizes That Actually Mean Something
At every competition, we award first through fourth place across the open and novice categories. Depending on the competition, we often have two to three judging sections throughout the day to make sure that not only the talent is honoured and spotlighted, but that the audience get plenty of breaks and the opportunity to social and win prizes!
Specialised prizes
We are proud to have several amazing and supportive sponsors. Our GOLDEN TICKET winner secures free entry for that routine to either our summer or winter final, and at each competition, sponsors and judges award one-day workshops, summer school places, and associate programme trials and places.
Qualifying for our Winter or Summer means that dancers who will be 16 by the time of enrolment have the chance to win a scholarship to exceptional training programmes, including The Brighton Academy — a full training programme worth over £30,000.
At our 2025 summer final, in collaboration with our sponsors, we awarded £100,000 in scholarships to training programmes, including full-time BA and Diploma programmes. These are opportunities that change careers.
